    On A Budget

Shooting equipment can get expensive.  Sporter AR competitions were designed especially for those wishing to compete with a minimum of equipment and expense.   The sport should be accessible to new shooters, without creating a financial burden.  As they progress in competition, they may choose to "upgrade," but a basic starter set can be acquired at a modest cost.  The Valencia County (NM) 4-H Shooting Sports Team offers some useful tips HERE. I have also compiled a list of some reasonably-priced items I have found available at Wal-Mart and other retail outlets, I share some of them here to give you an idea.  If you find others, let me know and share your favorites.

    Shooting Mats

Here is the 3PARC Rule on Shooting Mats:

    4.7.5 Shooting Mat

One ground cloth or mat of compressible material, with a maximum thickness of 5cm (2 in.), can be used for prone and kneeling positions, provided it is not constructed or used to provide artificial support. A folded mat may be placed under a athlete’s position provided the thickness of any folded portion of the mat does not exceed 5cm (2 in.). Additional pads may not be used with shooting mats, whether the mats are provided by athletes or provided by the range for all athletes. Placement of the mat must not interfere with other athletes.
